WHAT'S GOING ON?

The latest developments concerning the LGBTQ+ community in Pennsylvania, with a focus on legislation, healthcare, and local events in Chester County
Legislation in Pennsylvania: Rep. Josh Siegel (D-Lehigh County) introduced House Bills 2446 and 2447 in June 2024. These bills aim to protect access to gender-affirming care and shield healthcare providers from penalties for offering such care. Siegel emphasized the importance of these protections amid a national trend of restrictions in other states.

The LGBT Equality Alliance of Chester County works year-round to build connection, visibility, support, and access for LGBTQIA+ people across Chester County. We believe community care matters — and that everyone deserves spaces where they can show up safely, authentically, and without needing to explain who they are.
Through a mix of peer-led programs, social gatherings, educational opportunities, advocacy, and community partnerships, we create meaningful ways for people to connect with one another and access support.
Our work includes:
• Peer support groups for LGBTQIA+ adults, gender-expansive individuals, youth, and those navigating grief
• Social gatherings like game nights, arts & crafts, poetry nights, hiking groups, and community meetups
• LGBTQIA+ business networking and professional connection opportunities
• Large-scale community events including PrideFest, Queer Prom, Outfest, and the Love Is Love Gala
• Educational workshops, outreach, tabling, and resource sharing throughout Chester County
• Advocacy work focused on equity, safety, visibility, and access for LGBTQIA+ people
• Open office hours and our free Little Queer Library community book exchange
At the heart of all of this is a simple goal: making sure LGBTQIA+ people in Chester County have places to connect, build relationships, access support, and feel part of a stronger community.
